Thoughts of a racehorse by Ann Burge
Here we are waiting for starters orders,
Am I ready to go,
I don't think so,
If only I didn't have to wear that bit between my teeth,
I might be raring to go.
And that whip that stings upon my rump when I'm doing my very best,
And then my heart starts to thump.
I don't ask for a lot,
But I do get so steamy and hot,
So please treat me with care,
With you I want my life to share.
I don't want to seem ungrateful,
I know I'm looked after well,
But please! I've got feelings too,
And I want to put my trust in you.
So the next time you race me,
Think if what I have said,
I will do my very best for you,
If you treat me with love and care instead.
