ROCK giants From The Jam have promised to return to Swindon after being wowed by crowds at a gig on Saturday night.

Around 900 fans made their way to Meca for the highly-anticipated show by the three-piece, which included one of the original members of Paul Weller’s 1970s outfit, The Jam, Bruce Foxton.

He was joined on stage by singer and guitarist Russell Hastings and drummer Steve Barnard who have been playing together as From The Jam since 2007.

The stop-off in the town was part of a 40th anniversary tour celebrating The Jam’s debut album ‘In the City’, released in 1977.

Music promoter Jan Ayers said the band were happy with how the gig turned out at the Regents Circus venue.

“The gig was superb,” Jan added.

“Everyone was pleaded with how it turned out, the band, the fans and the staff at Meca. It was fantastic for Swindon and it was such a brilliant venue.

“There was a great local support from the town and they had hundreds of people watching them from early on which was really nice to see.

“We will certainly be looking for more gigs in Meca in the future because it went so well."

At the Swindon gig the band performed a selection of songs from In The City, as well as The Jam’s greatest hits. From The Jam were supported by Peloton and there was also a DJ set by Mike Flay.

Jan added: “The band has been to Swindon before but far back in their memories so I’ve been told. I think they played outdoors back then so Saturday was the first indoor gig they’ve done here.

“Swindon matched the rest of the UK for fun and turnout and the band will be returning next Easter. They have said since the gig that they would like to come back so they can do it all again because it was that fun.”
