IT MAY have been perfect beer garden weather, but a crowd thirsty for comedy shunned the sun in favour of a dark auditorium.

After a brilliant warm up set from Canadian Glenn Wool, Reginald D Hunter took to the stage at the Wyvern Theatre, and the sunny mood generated by the glorious climes outside continued.

Most of the issues discussed are unsuitable to grace the pages of a family newspaper, but Reg had the audience laughing throughout the show.

However, safe topics were his apology for, and explanation of, how Trump ended up as President - which (in sanitised terms) boiled down to lots of irate Americans in the middle states being peeved at diversity and having a black man in charge for eight years.

You’ll have to trust me that it’s much funnier when explained in a Georgia accent and using a colourful choice of language!

Where Trump is up for discussion, Brexit is never far behind. And the entertainer had a few choices words to say about it. Mainly how it turned the country into, for want of a better phrase, selfish idiots.

The recurring theme of the evening however was racism and as those who have seen his act on television will know, this provided some of the biggest laughs of the show.

During the latter half of his act, Reg said he was taking his agent’s advice and being bouncy, light and silly - which included letting his hair down...literally.

No sooner than those words were out of his mouth, the conversation turned to Bill Cosby... but true to his word, he kept it light and silly.

It was an evening full of laughter from start to finish and Reg received a rapturous round of applause.

Nearly three years away from touring haven’t dulled his comedy edge - welcome back Mr Hunter.
