ELBOW delivered the summer feel good factor to a packed arena as they performed the first Forest Live 2017 gig at Westonbirt Arboretum.

It was an evening of gentle banter mixed with skilled musicianship under the setting sun and many of the crowd enjoyed it so much they didn’t seem to want to the band leave the stage after their encore.

The chorus of One Day Like This, performed for a second time, could be heard being sung by the faithful as far away as the event car park at Westonbirt School.

Guy Garvey and his bandmates came on stage and got straight to work with a chilled tune before greeting the crowd and launching into old favourite, The Bones of You.

It was an assured performance by the band and even a few technical difficulties early on failed to put them off their stride.

The band then went straight into Head For Supplies, a song he said they had never played live.

At one point during the show Guy stopped to chat to the crowd about the work of the Forestry Commission, asking how many had ever seen a pearl-bordered fritillary butterfly and how the commission was helping to ensure its survival.

He even gave a mention to driver Andy, who had been ferrying them to and from their hotel and whose normal job was caring for the trees in the arboretum.

As the show went on there was a sense of waiting for the initial bars of One day Like This to be heard. It was the song that brought them to the attention of millions when they played it at the closing ceremony of the 2012 Olympics in London and when it finally arrived it didn't disappoint.
