Another fairly quiet week around town, musically speaking, unless I’m missing something and if I am then please let me know, this column is only as relevant as the information that is readily available, so feel free to get in touch. It does, however, leave me room to wish happy birthday to the most excellent Rosanne Cash, eldest daughter of American music icon Johnny and herself an award winning musician and writer. If your record collection doesn’t contain a copy of her fantastic album Interiors, then your life will be all the poor for it until you rectify that situation.

And talking of splendid Americans, Keegan McInroe is back in town tonight. A true wandering minstrel, he weaves old country sounds, bluesy vibes and timeless folk heritage into songs which are as poetic as they are poignant. Catch him and usually a few familiar faces from the great and good of local music, or failing that the adequate and available, at The Beehive tonight.

If you are looking for lots of great music all under one roof on Friday, then The Castle is the place to be. In memory of the late and sorely missed Tony Brown and raising money for The Prospect Hospice they have assembled a cracking line up. Here you will find the dulcet acoustica of Mel Hughes, the not so dulcet but no less fantastic Doeser, the strange and mercurial Junky Gibbons, all rounded off by the punky-Americana of Raze-Rebuild.

Josie and The Outlaw bring their old-school rock and roll, rockabilly and country blues to The Groves Country Inn, imagine a revue show of the best of the Chess, Sun and Atlantic record labels all played with effortless cool and endless virtuosity.

There is plenty of heavier music to be found throughout the parish boundaries this weekend too and it all starts at The Victoria with the most established rock and metal gang of them all, Shepards Pie. Always a popular draw and not only a blistering night of music but one of the most powerful and authentic bands on the rock and metal cover circuit.

On Saturday you will also find rock in the guise of Saints of Sin at The Waiting Room. This is a band revelling in the 80s glam metal and classic rock zenith, expect big beats, big riffs and big hair, rock and roll excess writ large across a live stage.

At The Victoria, another selection of bands gather for a worthy cause, this time for Stand Up For Cancer and throughout the evening you will find the pop-punk of Post 12 and Overload, the euphoric, serrated-edged, punk driven indie vibes of Getrz, the groovesome and accessible sounds of The Basement Club and Midweek’s alt-rock goodness. There is also some fabulous acoustic music to be had from Jordan Marvell and Alicia Griffin and make sure you catch Jay Jay too, definitely one to watch.

Coming at you like a bunch of Trojan (Records) horses you will find The 2Tone All Skas at The Swiss Chalet, not only revelling in the sounds of that classic label but covering bands influenced by it, such as Madness and The Specials.

There are two opportunities to catch Hooch and their array of 90’s hits this weekend, everything from Faithless to Bobby Brown, the first is at The Queen’s Tap on Saturday and then you can do it all again at The Victoria on Sunday.

Also on Sunday, The Tin Shack Band can be found at The Queen’s Tap for a set of classic covers and iconic tunes from the 60’s to the present day, Built 4 Comfort bring a smorgasbord of up-beat and hard hitting blues to The Jovial Monk and finally if old-school punk and new wave is more to your tastes then Rotten Aces at The Duke of Edinburgh is the one for you.
