Wet Hot American Summer has revealed the starriest TV show cast ever – but just how has it got so many big names signed up?

The new Netflix series is actually a prequel to the 2001 cult classic film Wet Hot American Summer, a comedy about the last day at a US summer camp. The series will concentrate on the day before the camp opens its gates.

Stars including Bradley Cooper, Elizabeth Banks and Amy Poehler are returning to their original roles – which, weirdly, means they’ll be playing teenage camp counsellors again, but this time a whole summer earlier on screen and 14 years later in real life.

The line-up returning, to what at the time was a flop, is so great that they’ve even managed to snare a few newcomers – notably, Jon Hamm, Kristen Wiig, Chris Pine and Jason Schwartzman.

We take a look back over some of the returning stars and the roles they’re coming back to…

Bradley and Amy played the camp’s born-performers Susie and Ben, who wanted to produce and choreograph the greatest talent show the camp had ever seen.

This love triangle was made up of Katie (Marguerite), her cheating boyfriend Andy (Paul) and her admirer Coop (Michael).

Elizabeth played Lindsay, a girl that Andy was cheating on Katie with.

Christopher Meloni

Christopher played Coop’s friend Gene, a shell-shocked Vietnam war veteran and camp chef who tried to help Coop win over Katie.

AD Miles, Zak Orth and Michael Ian Black

Gary (AD) and JJ (Zak) spent most of their time trying to work out why McKinley (Michael) had no experience with women.

Janeane played camp director Beth, who struggled to keep the campers in order while falling in love with Henry (David), a local college astrophysics professor who was trying to save the camp from a piece of a NASA skylab that was falling to Earth.
