Jay McGuiness joked that the reason for the lack of Strictly Come Dancing romances this year was that all the contestants were ugly.
Jay joined fellow contestants Kellie Bright, Georgia May Foote, Helen George, Anita Rani and Peter Andre on Alan Carr’s show where they discussed the “curse of Strictly”.
Asked why no one was having a bit of “How’s your father” with their professional partner, Kellie was the first to tease: “We’ve all tried. They just say ‘Get away’.”
Georgia May Foote, who is partnered with singleton Giovanni Pernice, lamented: “They are all married to each other.”
Finally singer Jay, 25, joked, “I think after 10 years they are sort of scraping the barrel for who they can get to do it and they are like ‘Oh, no one fancies that’.”
Luckily no one took offence at Jay’s comment and no one seemed struck by the Strictly curse.
Georgia declared herself “like brother and sister”, Anita “like a married couple” and Kellie “like best friends” with their respective dance partners.
Jay has set tongues wagging with his closeness to married dance partner Aliona Vilani, but both have denied any kind of romance.
Helen George had a slightly more romantic notion for herself and Aljaz Skorjanec.
“I always think of it like Dirty Dancing and Patrick Swayze with the blonde one. He is always there for her. Penny! In my head I am Penny.”
But she still thought it would be “awful” to fall in love on the show.
“It would be awful though if you fell in love with your dance partner because you spend so much time together.
“You could start a relationship, go through all of the relationship and then end it by the end because it’s so intimate and full on all the time. It would the worst relationship to start I think,” she said.
One sure way to scare a lady off, as Peter Andre discovered, is an accidental flash.
Talking to Alan on the phone, Peter spilt the beans on spilling out of his trousers and one of the wardrobe assistants possibly catching sight of his manhood.
“I mean the men will tell you, Jay will know what it is like, they have shorts connected to the shirt and you have to have an area for you to go to the bathroom within the shorts,” he explained to Alan.
“She saw something! You know what they say, once you’ve gone Greek, you’ve hit your peak.”
Alan Carr: Chatty Man airs on Channel 4 at 10pm.
