A popular social media personality is recovering in hospital after he was involved in a dirt bike crash.

Sixteen-year-old Hayes Grier, who has more than 15 million followers across Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram and Vine, suffered a broken rib, a bruised lung and concussion in the accident, his spokeswoman confirmed.

Hayes’s brother Nash, 18, who also has a prominent social media presence, shared news of the incident with his five million Twitter followers, while the hashtag PrayForHayes began trending on the website.

Hayes, who appeared as a contestant on Dancing With The Stars, the US version of Strictly Come Dancing, was “under great care” in hospital, his spokeswoman said.

“Hayes Grier was involved in a dirt bike accident and immediately transported to a local hospital,” she said. “Hayes suffered a concussion, broken rib, bruised lung, and multiple skin lacerations.

“Thankfully, he is OK and currently resting and recovering in the hospital surrounded by his family, where he will remain for the next few days. We can’t thank you all enough for the outpouring of prayers and support for Hayes!”

Hayes and Nash’s older brother, Will Grier, is an American football quarterback for the West Virginia Mountaineers.

According to Variety, Hayes is to star in an online comedy series where he attempts to run his family’s 19-acre farm in Moorseville, North Carolina.
