Tom Daley: Diving For Gold presented an intimate portrait of the diving champion’s four-year journey from London 2012 until now.
The ITV programme covered the Plymouth-born star’s sporting, public and personal life.
It included Tom’s coming out when he revealed his relationship with Oscar-winning Hollywood writer Dustin Lance Black and the couple’s engagement.
Viewers watched as Tom Daley: Diving For Gold detailed his OCD, his move to London from Plymouth, reaction from members of his family and coaching team and the gamble he is taking in learning a new dive in pursuit of Olympic gold in Rio.
Tom, who lost his dad – his biggest supporter – to a brain tumour in 2011, still feels the loss.
“He always knew what to say to make me feel better. He was always just there to be supportive,” the 22-year-old said.
Tom will compete for Great Britain in this summer’s Olympics, his third, in Rio de Janeiro.
The documentary served its purpose – it got everyone on Twitter excited about the Games. What’s more, it was a veritable Tom Daley love-in.
