I WAS lucky enough to witness the dawning of a great new musical play at The Place in the Wyvern Theatre. The talented writer Matt Fox joined the musical writing talent of Jessie Thompson to produce a new piece of musical theatre.

Jessie took us through every genre of music, including opera, with a wonderful cast of young people. They had stunning voices and exceptional acting ability.

I won’t go into details of the plot, mainly because it would take a while to explain. Suffice to say Emma Whitworth as Stevie was excellent in a very demanding role.

The Three Musketeers, played by Lucy Bosley, Stephanie Walsh and Charlotte Johnson, were superb, all with great acting ability and voices, and there was good direction by Peter Edge-Partington who also took a part as one of the Gods. The other Norse Gods were played by Polly Leach, who has a stunning operatic singing voice and the hilarious Robert Felstead, with Scott McDonald acting as a perfect foil for them all. Musical accompaniment was supplied by Jessie on piano, Annabelle Black on clarinet and Vicky Burton on flute.

These young people didn't need microphones to succeed in their task. They could rely on stunning voices to get them through.

This is what you get when you have a talented musician to write the score and a master of words on the book and lyrics.

I don’t wax lyrical about everything but in this case it’s hard not to because of the sheer joy of the piece, direction, costume and just about everything else.
