Macbeth is one of the great tragedies, full of ambition, dirty tricks, love and hate, murder and the supernatural.

Shakespeare Live’s production will deliver all this and more, with lighting and sound effects adding to the tension.

The three witches, rather different this time from the old hags usually seen in the play, are bolstered by the mysterious Hecate and sprites that form an ever-present spooky background to the play.

The outdoor setting is the beautiful gardens of Lackham House near Lacock, where audiences are able to enjoy picnics before each performance and extra entertainment on the Saturday Gala Night.

Bars, refreshments, indoor toilets and easy parking all make the experience more enjoyable, and the show goes on regardless of the weather, helped by the fact that the audience are sheltered by the covered stand.

Shakespeare Live, itself a charity, also aims to give money to local charities and has donated thousands of pounds over its 26-year history.

This year’s dates are July 7-11 at 8pm and 2pm and 8pm on July 12. Tickets are available from www.shakespearelive.com or from the box office on 07780 938107.
