COUNTRY and western music has never been to my taste, but when you have a partner who has loved it since she was young you can’t pass up the chance to take her to the Country Superstars Experience, can you?

Many Brownie points were up for grabs, to be exchanged for sporting experiences.

So we joined a disappointing number of people at the Wyvern on Wednesday for a tribute to Patsy Cline, Billie Jo Spears, Kenny Rogers, Willie Nelson, John Denver and, of course, the greatest of them all, Dolly Parton.

I’ve always had a soft spot for Dolly because of the quips she makes about herself but there’s no way I would have paid £120 to see her in concert back in the summer when she toured the UK.

But £17.50 to see Sarah Jayne doing her stuff at the Wyvern was a bargain – and we got all the other country greats as well. Andy Crust doing his bit as Kenny Rogers, Willie Nelson el al added to a professional show.

We were also entertained by The Sisters – about a dozen Swindon girls who sang along to most of the songs in an enjoyably noisy way. Good on you, girls.

Sarah Jayne is Europe’s number one Dolly Parton tribute act and has been performing as her idol for 22 years.

“Before the show she said: “We’re not just singing the songs. We look like them, sound like them and have their mannerisms, too.”

If I wanted to whinge a little I would rather have had more songs and less dialogue. Sarah Jayne has got a great singing voice and, as Billie Jo Spears, she was superb.

In fact it wasn’t until later that I realised there were just two performers – Sarah Jayne and Andy Crust – doing all the impressions.

While I’m not a converted country fan, I have to admit it was a great show... plus I picked up oodles of Brownie points. – LEIGH ROBINSON
