A MODERN adaption of Charles Dickens’ Great Expectations will bring the tale into the present day at Swindon Arts Centre on Tuesday, September 30.

Watch how blacksmith’s boy Pip is transformed into a London gentleman with the aid of a mysterious benefactor.

But even as Pip’s fortunes rise, he is haunted by his love for the beautiful, unattainable Estella, whom he visited at Miss Havisham’s house as a child.

The show, presented by London Contemporary Theatre, starts in the 1980s and finishes in the present day.

Jonathan Brindley, who plays Pip, said: “It’s a bit different to Dickensian times but it’s a modern day audience and this modern adaptation means they can relate to it a bit more.

“Plot-wise there’s not a huge difference, it’s just the setting has changed.

“The audience will definitely enjoy it. They will see it is still a relevant story today.

“These characters exist and Pip in particular is very real. It’s a story about growing up and a lot of people can relate to it.

“There is something in it for everybody. This story has so much in it.”
