Russian Ice Stars' Snow White On Ice is at New Theatre Oxford until Sunday, January 11

SO you thought panto season was over? Oh, no it isn’t!

And if you fancy a stunning piece of family entertainment, there’s still time to head to the New Theatre in Oxford to see the Russian Ice Stars work their magic on Snow White.

The panto element comes in the former of larger-than-life narrator Rustie Lee (remember her from TV-am in the 1980s?) as Fairy Florrie, who is there to guide younger members of the audience through the plot, encourage a bit of joining in and keep the laughs coming.

The rest of the ensemble tell the classic tale of Snow White through ice dancing and music.

The performers are stunning, bringing personality and emotion to their roles and making the production more of a magical, other-worldly ballet than a straight forward display of ice-skating. The score too is truly rousing.

On top of that, there are aerial acrobatics, juggling, slapstick and plenty of humour... all on ice.

The way the tale is told is completely compelling and jam packed with ‘ooh’ and ‘aaah’ moments, while some of the stunts are truly heart-stopping.

The only downside was Ms Lee wasn’t on best form, but, like a true professional, she soldiered on regardless and the kids didn’t seem to mind.

So if you’re in the mood for a touch of winter magic, this is a show not to be missed.
