Opportunities to tread the boards in drama groups are numerous but the chance to take the director’s chair in Swindon is rare.
Dorcan Performing Arts Group is now looking for a director to join the team which includes an assistant director specialising in dance, and a tutor assistant.
DPAG has been coaching dance, drama, voice, technical and backstage skills to students from 10 years of age for 14 years. The amateur dramatic group meets every Tuesday in Dorcan Academy in Dorcan, Swindon.
The director’s post would need to be someone with a love of theatre who could motivate 50 youngsters from nine to 30-years-old to perform to their best abilities. The skills needed are to be objective, flexible, patient, persistent. The right person would need to be a good leader and inspire everyone to have fun while still learning at the weekly sessions.
The group put on regular performances throughout the year and are currently rehearsing for Snow and The Twelve Dwarfs following the success of their Christmas production Fairy Odd Mother.
Gina Musty from DPAG said: “This post does have an hourly rate although some voluntary hours would be necessary during production weeks. We are looking for someone to put the buzz back in to our group. They would need to have the relevant theatrical certificates, be subjected to a Disclosure certificate and attend a children’s protection workshop.’’
Entry to the group is £1.50 per session with a £5 annual fee. For more details visit www.dorcanperformingartsgroup.co.uk/ - Flicky Harrison
