The anxiety-ridden, skittish, yet hilarious comedian that is Mark Watson returned for his sixth gig in Swindon at the Wyvern Theatre and proved just as popular with the town as he always has.

Starting the show on a treadmill, which brought a whole new meaning to the phrase 'warm up', the Bristolian set the pace for the evening - jumping from one subject to the next in impressive rapid fashion.

Throughout the two-hour performance, he kept everyone engaged and in fits of giggles and his honest awkwardness made him endearing and entertaining.

He talked about his need to be liked and how he's an incessant people-pleaser, but then also spoke of his expletive laden temper tantrums that erupt at various inanimate objects at any given moment.

Mark also commented on how he is 35 in the next few days and how he feels so much older lately (as well as worn down by his childrens’ constant, unrelenting, questioning).

Audience interaction happens during any comedian's routine but Watson can take it to a whole other level.

He re-enacted a scene from a Thomas the Tank Engine party he took his children to, which ended up with 14-year-old audience member Fergus being squeezed into a tiny tent on the stage.

Other subjects included why Watson doesn't wear glasses anymore, how we are all, in fact, just 'well evolved worms' and why the British 'Keep Calm' merchandising phenomenon drives him to insanity.

He shared sweets with a front row gig-goer, picked out a tweeter of the show called Matt Smith and focused on how he wears pants all day - and then went to the theatre foyer after the gig to meet fans and sign books.

Mark Watson is a real gem, not 'up and coming' as so many publications incorrectly state. He's actually been doing stand up for a decade, and judging by tonight's show, he will be around for a lot longer.
