Simple Minds, one of the biggest bands of the '80s, are heading to the Oasis

EIGHTIES rockers Simple Minds will grace the Oasis stage on Saturday.

Original members, singer Jim Kerr and guitarist Charlie Burchill, will be joined in the current line-up by Mel Gaynor, Andy Gillespie and Ged Grimes.

“We started thinking we should make people in towns everywhere hardcore Simple Minds fans again. Maybe they’ve lapsed – and maybe the band hasn’t been giving them enough attention” said Jim.

Simple Minds began in 1977 from the demise of a punk outfit called Johnny and The Self-Abusers. The band chose the name Simple Minds from a line in David Bowie’s hit Jean Genie.

They notched up various record deals including signing to Arista and Virgin and toured with Peter Gabriel before topping the album charts with Sparkle In The Rain in 1984.

Tickets to see Simple Minds in Swindon are £39.50 for tiered bench seating, or £49.50 for flat seating, and are available now from www.gigsandtours.com or www.ticketmaster.co.uk or call 0844 811 0051.
