Talented youngsters warming up for a trip to Paris

TWINKLE-TOED young performers are fundraising to reach the fairytale competition of their dreams.

Dynamic dancers from Greenmeadow’s Kitty Langan Studios School of Performing Arts will fly to Disneyland Paris in March next year to take part in the international Disney Dance Camp competition.

The competition gathers dancers from a variety of backgrounds to compete in dance, singing and musical theatre categories.

Kitty Langan, which currently has more than 90 dancers under its tutelage, teaches a range of dance disciplines including jazz, ballet, musical theatre and contemporary. A fleet of 11 dancers aged nine to 16 will fly to France to complete for a prestigious trophy.

Principal Katie Langan (CORR), said the competition was a dream come true for the youngsters.

“This is a bit of a fairytale for them, and they’re very excited. It’s something that’s they can look back on in future years and almost cross off the bucket list,” she said.

“For many of them this will be the first big competition they get a chance to go to so it’s so exciting for them.”

“I’ve told them all that it is going to be hard work though and they’re so dedicated considering how young they are, they can’t wait to get started."

Katie is now tasked with raising £750 to ensure the young dancing protégées can make it to Europe for the three day competition.

To help meet the costs of the contest Katie has planned a series of fundraising events to ensure the dancers can make it to the contest in spectacular style.

She said: “The parents have been so generous already but we’re hoping that people from the town will come and support us too because it is a once in a lifetime opportunity for the children.

“It is a lot of money and we want to make sure they can get there and really impress with their dance moves and costumes.

“I’ve said to parents that we’ll try and fundraise as much as we can, for food, costumes and transport. It’s also good for the children to get involved in the community and help others out as much as they can.”

A series of fundraising events have been planned including sponsored bag packing at Greenmeadow and Dorcan Morrisons and Sainsburys Bridgemead, a car wash and a sponsored fancy dress cat walk in honour of the studio’s name.

The studio will also hold a cabaret and awards evening on August 27 at the Moonrakers featuring a showcase, bingo and a buffet.

“You don’t need to be a fan of dance to come along and try it out. There’s something for everyone here and it should be a really fun night,” Katie said.
