YOUNGSTERS from Wyvern Theatre’s Summer Youth Project were out in force when a Swindon salon received some special guests.

As Hairspray’s opening night approaches, three cast members took a trip to Sardaya Hair & Beauty, in Commercial Road, to perfect their ‘60s-style bouffants.

Kerrie Scarff, who plays leading lady Tracy Turnblad, Olympia Curry, who plays Motormouth Maybelle and Tino Muronda, who plays the character of Little Inez, were transformed into their swinging ‘60s characters amid a flurry of hairspray and ribbon.

Olympia said: “I’m really enjoying Summer Youth Project.

“I love the ‘60s fashion and hair styles.

“The whole process is really bringing out the character in me.

I can’t wait to share our production with an audience.”

Salon owner Ellen Osa was happy to welcome the trio to the salon.

“As an independent hair salon specialising in black hair, Sardaya are thrilled to support the participants of this year’s Summer Youth Project production of Hairspray,” she said.

“Although set in the ‘60s, the musical features themes and issues that are still relevant today and we’re happy to support all causes that raise awareness of equality issues.”

Hairspray runs at the Wyvern Theatre from Thursday to Sunday. Tickets are available at swindontheatres.co.uk, or by callinging 01793 524 481.
