Songs from a musical, set in a bookshop, are to be performed, in a bookshop.

Bindy Baker, the daughter of Dr Who star Colin Baker, and West End star Damien Edwards will be singing songs from Paper Hearts, written by Swindon writer, Liam Raffety, in the high street book shop, Devizes Books, on Thursday, September 29.

Liam wrote the bitter sweet, quirky love story over four years, learning all about musical theatre as he wrote the book, scripts music and lyrics for Paper Hearts.

"I have a fundamental belief that musical theatre is a popular art form that demands great songs, catchy tunes and cool rhythms,'' said Liam.

The St Joseph's school pupil admits that he has been passionate about musicals since growing up in the Park North area of Swindon, especially West Side Story.

Liam's first showcase of songs from Paper Hearts was part of the Madam Renards Mini Fringe at the Wyvern Theatre. This time, in Devizes, it is in association with the Books Are My Bag campaign.

Jo Batchelor, owner of Devizes Books, said: "It is a chance to hear great songs, mingle with some of the people involved with Paper Hearts, find out all about this exciting musical project and perhaps even become a part of it.''

Liam runs the Red Rocket Design Agency but his long term goal is to get his musical performed on a stage off-Broadway.

This summer with help from Swindon musician Jon Buckett, from Earthworm Music, and XTC's Colin Moulding, Liam created a new studio album of songs from the musical.

The music was performed by the Paper Hearts Orchestra, a mix of top session musicians, including guitarist Innes Sibbun, and Colin himself.

"Bindy and Damien provided vocals, and what a pleasure it was to work with such talented people,'' said Liam.

Tickets to hear songs from Paper Hearts at Devizes Books, including a glass of bubbly and nibbles are £10 from sales@devizesbooks.plus.com or on the door.
