THE curtain is about to go up on a magical performance in Gorse Hill.

The Tiverton Players will tread the boards later this month when they present Beauty and the Beast starring the Tanwood Dancers.

Speaking ahead of one of their final rehearsals, Gemme leigh told The Adver the performances were real family entertainment.

She said: “We have been rehearsing once a week since September, but now that we are in January we have started rehearsing twice a week, so it all comes together quite quickly. We really are a family group, and we are now in our 69th year – so next year will be a big one when we celebrate 70 years.”

That’s not to say that there won’t be a treat instore this year, and Gemma said that the audience should expect some traditional family pantomime entertainment.

“It’s all about the audience participation – the ‘he’s behind yous’ – a real family event. We keep the ticket prices low so it is great entertainment after Christmas.”

Playing the leading role of Beauty will be Amber Woolen, herself a Tanwood dancer, while Dale Greenhood will take on the role of Beast.

The performances will be held at Gorse Hill Community Centre on Chapel Street from Thursday, January 28 until Saturday, January 30. Doors open at 7pm with the curtain going up at 7.30pm. There will also be a Saturday matinee when doors will open at 2pm for a 2.30pm performance.

Tickets costing £6 for adults, £4 for children and a family ticket for two adults and two children at £18 are available by calling 01793 640271.
