NOT long ago, comedian Mark Watson boarded a plane unsure whether he’d be let into the country at the other end. This made for a rather frantic flight. Never one to keep a mishap or catastrophe-in-the-making to himself, Watson is preparing to share his ordeal – and its outcome (did he make it? Didn’t he?) in his new show I’m Not Here at the Wyvern on Sunday.

This incident is only the starting point for a one-man show which spirals into an examination of identity in the digital age and a search for meaning in our lives. Sounds a bit too heavy for a Sunday night? Don’t worry, he will throw in a glut of jokes, his customary flailing and chaotic audience interactions.

One of the most decorated performers on the UK comedy scene, Watson was nominated for Best Newcomer at the 2005 Perrier Awards, before being awarded the 2006 if.comedy Panel Prize. He took home the Time Out Critics Choice Award in 2006 and has been nominated for a Barry Award from the Melbourne Comedy Festival.

He is the star of Dave’s Road to Rio and the host of We Need Answers. He regularly appears on Never Mind The Buzzcocks, Mock the Week, Would I Lie To You and Have I Got News For You.

As well as a stand-up comic, he is an author in his own right and has published five novels. Following his efforts to halve his carbon footprint, he wrote Crap At The Environment.

Mark Watson will perform at the Wyvern on Sunday at 8pm. Tickets are £18. To book call 01793 524481 or visit swindontheatres.co.uk.
