HAVEN’T quite got round to booking your tickets yet? It’s not too late to catch wartime thriller Lotty’s War at the Wyvern.

Based on recently discovered diaries, the play revisits an often forgotten chapter of British history: the Nazi occupation of the Channel Islands.

With the last boat to England gone, Lotty, played by Downton Abbey’s Victoria Emslie, is housed in close quarters with the enemy. Loyalties waver amidst the temptations of forbidden love and the politics of war.

Soon, the fiercely independent young woman is forced into a series of dangerous and life-changing decisions.

Emslie trained at the Royal Central School for Speech and Drama after graduating with an MA in Arabic and French from St Andrews University.

Probably best known for her role as Lady Edith’s secretary Audrey in Downton Abbey, she has also worked with some of Hollywood’s greatest, landing the role of Sarah in The Theory of Everything and appearing in The Danish Girl, both alongside Oscar-winning actor Eddie Redmayne.

Joining her on stage as General Rolf Bernberg is Ian Reddington, better known as Tricky Dicky in EastEnders and Vernon in Coronation Street.

Completing the cast as Lotty’s suitor is Mat Ruttle as Ben De Carteret.

Mat trained at the Guildford School of Acting and was part of the cast of The Railway Children which went on to win an Olivier Award for best entertainment. He is best know for his role in The National Theatre’s award-winning production of War Horse.

Written by Guernsey-born Giuliano Crispini, Lotty’s War has been hailed as “one of the best wartime plays”.

Lotty's War runs at the Wyvern until Saturday. Tickets start from £17. To book call the box office on 01793 524481 or visit swindontheatres.co.uk.
