Not quite sure how to entertain your little munchkins over the next couple of weeks? The sun may not shine bright enough for an excursion outside but thankfully there is plenty going on indoors to keep them occupied. Here is our pick of the best children’s shows, workshops and activities

BACK by popular demand, The Great Jaydini is set to initiate legions of children into his bewildering world of tricks and illusions at the Wyvern on August 10. The talented magician’s unique style pulls together a blend of comedy and magic suitable for children aged four and older. Tickets are £10. The show starts at 11am.

IF there was ever a time to dust off your child’s Disney princess costume it is at the Wyvern’s Kids Cinderella Party on August 17. Would-be princesses will get to dress to impress, dance, swirl in their favourite gown, have their photograph taken with Cinderella herself, take part in fun games, have a go on an indoor bouncy castle and snack on a mini buffet - all whilst parents enjoy a complimentary cup of tea or coffee.The party takes place in the theatre café from 11am to 2pm. Tickets are £12.50. There is no need to book in advance.

IF they haven’t yet read or seen this unforgettable and heart-warming story of adventure and family, now is the time to introduce your brood to The Railway Children. E. Nesbit’s classic tale has delighted adults and children alike for generations and will be brought to life once more against the atmospheric industrial backdrop of the STEAM Museum on August 20. The lives of three children are changed forever by the mysterious disappearance of their father. Finding a new home in a beautiful but isolated village they make friends and discover the wonders of the Yorkshire hills and the railway lines scattered across them.

With stunning period costumes, traditional music and songs and a host of memorable characters, The Railway Children is ideal for a summer evening’s entertainment.

Swindon Dance’s Youth Summer School returns between August 8 and 12. Led by BBC Performing Arts Fellow John Ross, the workshop will see dancers between 11 and 18 create, rehearse and perform a unique piece. On August 13 and 14, former student and artistic director of Neon Dance Adrienne Hart will hold a summer intensive for professionals and dancers in full-time training.

The intensive will be followed between August 22 and 24 by the Go-Rio Children’s Summer School. Performers aged between six and ten years old will learn salsa, samba and even capoeira-inspired routines. For more information or to sign up to any of the workshops go to www.swindondance.org.uk.
