THE search is on to find a young Swindon dancer to join cast of the David Walliams’ hit shows Gangsta Granny on stage at the Wyvern Theatre this September.

Birmingham Stage Company, the acclaimed producers of the hit David Walliams’ play, Gangsta Granny, are looking for a local girl dancer, aged 16 or 17, to play the small but important role of a young teenage dance competitor in this show when, as part of its current UK tour, it plays at the Wyvern Theatre this autumn.

The company are looking for a dancer who does not require a performance licence and therefore aged 16 or over by the end of June 2016.

Neal Foster, the show’s director, said: “This small part has been specifically written to create a great opportunity for a young dancer who wants to become professional or who is just starting out in the profession to gain valuable experience on stage with a professional company and receive a fantastic addition to her CV. The part requires a solo dance routine in a crucial scene of the play, providing a wonderful showcase for her talents.

"The character ‘Diane’ is around 11 or 12 years old - we can use our imagination with this but ideally we need someone to look as young as possible. Ideally we would like someone who is shorter than 5'4'' but if a great dancer is found who is taller, then this would not be problem. The character has a small solo disco type dance in the middle of the show and is also part of the finale dance. This is a great fun role and a great opportunity to put this show on an up and coming dancer’s CV."

Any 16 or 17 year old female dancers interested in being considered should email a demo video of her performing the short show piece to gangstagranny@birminghamstage.com.

The video and audio files of the routine are available to view on the Gangsta Granny page of the Swindon Theatres website at www.swindontheatres.co.uk and applicants can e-mail laura@wyverntheatre.org.uk to have the files sent directly. The deadline for submitting applications is Monday, August 15.

The chosen dancer will be sent the video of the two minute dance she will be performing in the show so she can learn the choreography. She will be expected to perform in all Gangsta Granny performances both those in the daytime and evenings at the Wyvern Theatre and will be paid £21.38 expenses for each show.

Gangsta Granny will be at theWyvern Theatre from Tuesday September 27 until Saturday, October 1, with daytime performances on the Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Ticket prices start from £14.50 and can be booked online at swindontheatres.co.uk or by calling the Wyvern Theatre ticket office on 01793 524481.
