SWINDON’S answer to the modern day Shakespeare could be drinking a pint in the Beehive pub if a new event has anything to do with it.

On Tuesday (September 13), the pub in Prospect Hill, is hosting the town’s newest poetry and spoken word open mic night.

Landlord Andy Marcer has teamed up with poets Clive Oseman and Nick Lovell to present Oooh Beehive, a monthly open mic night to give poets across the area a chance to meet, perform and enjoy watching others take to the stage.

“It doesn’t matter if your poetry is short or long, deep or light, serious or funny, Oooh Beehive is here to share all forms of poetry,” said Nick.

“One of Oooh Beehive’s aims is to encourage new poets to share their words and talent and we want everyone to feel welcome, so the event is free.”

Oooh Beehive will feature a headline poet and a support act each month and for their launch night have announced that their headline act will be Birmingham’s bard of punk, Spoz, supported by Swindon poet Stephen Daniels.

Nick added: “Spoz's unique style of rhyme, wit and honesty, combined with his energetic enthusiasm always hits its target and leaves an impression that lasts.

“Stephen is a Swindon based poet whose wit, dryer than the finest martini, is tempered by the harsh truths hidden within.”

Oooh Beehive takes place on the second Tuesday each month and starts at 7pm. Open mic slots are available on the door.
