Rev star Miles Jupp is coming to town and MARION SAUVEBOIS takes a peek

FROM astronauts, regrets and the sexes, to social media and hipsters via a few pearls of wisdom on poo and manners (not at the same time), Miles Jupp's new show Songs of Freedom, is just as teasingly random has it sounds.

But it will all make sense in the end. Well, if the stand-up and actor, manages to make sense of it all.

Miles Jupp starred in BAFTA Award-winning sitcom Rev as holier than though lay reader Nigel.

This was a sort of 'homecoming' for the performer, who grew up in a manse in London and saw his fair share of poor souls knocking at his minister father's door, on many occasions blind drunk.

He has also appeared in Armando Iannucci’s artful skewering of Westminster The Thick of It and, last year, became the host of BBC Radio 4’s The News Quiz.

Miles started performing stand-up in 2000 and quickly gained recognition, winning both the So You Think You’re Funny and Leicester Mercury Comedian of the Year awards in 2001.

He went on to become a regular performer on BBC Scotland’s Live Floor Show. His first solo show at the Edinburgh Fringe, Gentlemen Prefer Brogues, earned him a nomination for the Perrier Best Newcomer award in 2003.

A man of many talents, he has performed in two plays at the National Theatre: People by Alan Bennett and Sam Holcroft’s Rules For Living.

He has also appeared in Neville’s Island in the West End and A Day In The Death Of Joe Egg at the Glasgow Citizens.

And he has been seen in a number of films including George Clooney’s The Monuments Men, Jon Stewart’s Rosewater, Michael Winterbottom’s The Look Of Love and, more recently, The Legend of Tarzan.

Miles Jupp comes to the Wyvern Theatre on Wednesday, September 14, at 8pm. Tickets are £20.50. To book call the box office on 01793 524481 or go to swindontheatres.co.uk
