PERFORMERS from Partners Theatre Company, a group of actors who have disabilities, put on a show for Year 8 Commonweal students before their final autumn drama production at The Wyvern Theatre tomorrow night.

The show, Trip Wire, has been described as one of the most exciting shows the company has created.

Supported by the charity Reach Inclusive Arts, based at the Wyvern, Partners is Wiltshire’s foremost group of actors with disabilities.

They have also been working with the Big State Theatre Company from Salisbury Arts Centre to bring their unique brand of physical comedy to the stage.

Trip Wire carries a serious message about the use of technology in our lives, how it can add but also how it can prevent us seeing the world around us and accepting our ability to communicate with each other face to face.

It features a young girl called Stacey Hawkes living in 2016. With a small gadget she holds in her hand she can access the world, see the world, meet the world and enjoy all the many benefits of the cyber super highway. So, when she gets left behind in France it should be easy for her to find her way home - unless the information network also has access to her; can see her and can be her.

On a real life adventure to get home Stacey learns some important lessons about her virtual life.

The company recently toured Swindon and Wiltshire schools, colleges and public venues to the delight of many of the students.

“I loved watching the show – it was amazing that they were doing something that they liked doing and didn’t let their disabilities get in the way of it,” said Commonweal student Abigail Maycock.

Another student, Louis Warburton said: “It taught me that anyone disabled, or not and from any culture can put on a great performance together.”

“We have been partnered with Reach Inclusive Arts since 2004 and each year Partners come into school to perform an issue based play to all our Yr 8s," said Heather Birkbeck, Head of Drama at Commonweal School.

"Our students react in a very positive way to the performance and Q&A.”

Reach Inclusive Arts is a charity that works with disabled people and those who have used mental health services to create professionally facilitated original theatre performance and art.

The last performance from the company will take place at Swindon Town Hall tomorrow at 7pm.

Tickets can be bought from Swindon Dance Box Office on 01793 601700.
