IT’S not every day a school inspector turns his hand at stand-up. Which is probably why someone occasionally wanders into one of Gervase Phinn’s shows thinking he’s actually Ricky Gervais.
But his line of work proved a nifty - and endless - source of baffling anecdotes. In An Evening with Gervase Phinn, the raconteur, author and broadcaster will share some hilarious, and sometimes poignant tales of life as a teacher and later inspector in the Yorkshire Dales.
Phinn taught in a range of schools for 14 years before becoming an education adviser and school inspector. He is now a freelance lecturer, writer and consultant for the Open University. He is probably best known for his best-selling autobiographical novels: The Other Side of the Dale, Over Hill and Dale and Head Over Heels in the Dales. Gervase Phinn will be at the Wyvern Theatre on Saturday at 7.30pm. Tickets are £20.50. To book go to swindontheatres.co.uk or call 01793 524481.
