A Swindon theatre company will be auditioning for their new season this weekend.

Wrong Shoes, led by Artistic Director Luke Marquez, is the resident company for the Shoebox Theatre, part of Swindon's cultural hub.

The company is looking for new members to create original and contemporary performance projects.

Auditions take place on Sunday, January 15, from 1pm to 3pm in the Shoebox Theatre, based in Theatre Square.

The curtain rose on the first Shoebox production in 2010 and since that time the company has performed shows including An Account of a Savage last year, The Magnificent Doctor Faustus in 2015 and a sell out show called The Anima Project at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2014.

Luke said: “We like to take people out of their comfort zone and break down the barriers between actor and audience. Wrong Shoes creates challenging and thought-provoking theatre in unusual spaces. We aim to create work that explores the audience-performance relationship, work collaboratively in an open, responsive manner to create new and engaging performances.”

Along with his performance work, Luke is associated with Acting Southwest who deliver professional masterclasses at Shoebox. Training is for beginners in acting, for improver level actors, one to one tuition and to give aspiring actors support with the LAMDA exams.

Shoebox is an intimate theatre, seating 50 for shows and has the backing of Artiste Ltd, the group of local artists from the Post Modern Art Gallery, also based in Theatre Square.

Luke plans to tear down the boundaries of elitism in the theatre, he wants to make contemporary theatre accessible to everyone, both for those treading the boards through training and performance, and those who enjoy unconventional and experimental drama.
