A night of folk featuring co-founder of Bellowhead, John Spiers, and rising stars Stick In The Wheel, will raise funds for Swindon's Prospect Hospice.

The folk royalty will be performing at the Thomas Hughes Memorial Hall in Uffington on Saturday, April 1 from 7.30pm.

The gig has been organised by George Reade from Faringdon who is delighted to be welcoming the folk stars.

"To have rising stars like Stick In The Wheel and possibly the best squeeze-box player in the country in the shape of John Spiers is a bit of a coup for Uffington,'' said George.

The folk duo have a new record out released last week called: From Here: English Folk Field Recordings featuring Martin and Eliza Carthy, Sam Lee, John Kilpatrick and Jon Boden.

George said: "It is a snapshot of current English folk recorded at locations across the breadth of the country.''

While he was born in Birmingham, John is claimed by Oxfordshire as one of their own as he lived in Abingdon from an early age. He came to fame in bands such as Eliza Carthy's The Ratcatchers, as the duo Spiers and Boden and with the folk giants Bellowhead.

All the proceeds of the Uffington concert will go to the Prospect Hospice based in Wroughton that offers end of life care for those with a terminal illness.
