SINGERS and dancers of all ages have been called to take part in a musical about climate change set to be performed in Swindon next March.

Littleoake is described by writer and composer Kerry McKenna as “a thought-provoking environmental musical for children and adults” which tackles the issues of climate change and deforestation.

The show is scheduled to take place over three nights from March 24 2018 at Commonweal School and organisers are appealing for cast members.

Fifty four-year-old Kerry, who lives in Avebury, has been the main creative force behind the project since she first got the idea, via a dream, 25 years ago.

Kerry said: “Many years ago I had a dream that inspired me to write a full length feature film. When I woke I just knew I had to write down the dream.

“I bought an old computer and slowly wrote down everything that I remembered. Over the years life happened and I occasionally picked up where I left off with the writing of the dream.

“I also wrote songs and somehow they fitted perfectly into the dream. Over a period of 25 years it all came together – the whole play, the music, the songs and characters.

After consulting with Swindon-based choreographer and director Marisa Zoeller, Kerry convinced herself that the time was right to make her dream come true.

“Together we adapted the dream to the stage where actors could act out the scenes along with songs,” said Kerry.

“We aim to show the public about the plight of deforestation through the art of acting and song.”

Initially, Kerry is planning three performances in Swindon with amateur dancers and actors. But the possibilities, she says, are endless and she hopes the show could become a West End hit.

Speaking about her passion for the environment, Kerry, who has written and played music for most of her life, said: “I hate seeing trees cut down, it really gets to me.

“I think trees are very important and I think that this was why I had the dream. It haunted me and I knew I simply had to do something.

“If we can educate children about environmental issues then that would be wonderful.”
