ONE of the most famous musicals is being brought to the stage in Royal Wootton Bassett this week.

Singin’ in the Rain features a 30-strong cast of local people who have been practising hard for the song and dance routines, including Gene Kelly’s famous Hollywood version.

The show opens at the Memorial Hall on April 27 and runs for three nights until Saturday. There is also a matinee performance on Saturday.

Wootton Bassett Light Operatic Society was formed 40 years ago following the Queen’s Silver Jubilee, stages two shows a year, but for many members this latest production is their first experience of tap dancing.

They have been honing their skills under the watchful eye of a professional dance teacher.

Special lighting effects are also being brought into play to create the rain.

Tickets are available by emailing tickets@wblos.org.uk and more information is available on the group website at wblos.org.uk.

Tickets cost £11 or £9 for concessions and performances start at 7.30pm while the matinee is at 2.30pm.

Meanwhile WBLETS, the junior section of the society is preparing for its next show, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat, which hits the stage on July 14.
