Theories of evolution and the suppression of women in society are among the subjects explored in a programme of three dances presented by Anna Watkins tonight.

An Evening with Anna Watkins takes place at Swindon Dance, Regent Street. The first piece is called Human Animal and taps into evolutionary theories, looking at human bodies and minds, instinctive movements and animal behaviour.

The second piece is Mrs Oath, a short dance made in collaboration with Film Oxford. Finally. Solitude examines the suppression of women, from domestic violence to gender discrimination.

Anna graduated from the Rambert School of Ballet and Contemporary Dance in 2005. She has been a dancer for Tavaziva Dance for 10 years, and is currently an Associate Artist of Swindon Dance.

She formed the Watkins Dance Company in 2011, and her work is described as very physical, technical and demanding.

In April last year she was made Associate Artist at Swindon Dance for 2017-18, a new project including commissions from Swindon Dance and Pegasus Theatre, Oxford.

The performance begins at 7.30pm and tickets are £7-£11. To book, call 01793 601700 or visit swindondance.org.uk.
