KING of deadpan comedy Jack Dee road tests material for his next tour at a sellout Wyvern Theatre gig on Wednesday.

The tour and its warm-ups mark the comic’s first foray into live stand-up for six years, although his profile is as high as it ever was thanks to a busy schedule of TV appearances.

These have included guest slots on comedy panel shows such as Have I Got News for You and QI as well as comedy drama Lead Balloon. The latter, featuring Jack as disenchanted comic Rick Spleen, became a cult hit.

He has also been the most frequent host of Radio 4’s I’m Sorry I Haven’t A Clue since the death of beloved long-time chairman Humphrey Lyttleton in 2008.

Asked why he’d decided to tour again, Jack replied: “I want to spend less time with my family.”
