SWINDON Indian Association raised thousands of pounds with their moves when they took to the stage for Prospect Hospice.

There were live performances of Bharatnatyam, Raas Garba, Kerala Folk Dance, Mohiniattam and Kathak at the event on Friday evening, which was held at St Joseph’s Catholic College.

About 20 dancers took to the stage in front of 200 people, raising more than £2,000 for Prospect Hospice.

A spokesman for Prospect said: “It was organised by Dr Nima Satish. She is a local GP and she knows about our work because of patients that use the hospice, and wanted to do something in aid of us.

“She and another doctor, Dr Ravi Nath, put on the event in accordance with the Swindon Indian Association.”

More than £2,000 was raised in ticket sales and hundreds of pounds were raised by selling wine and samosas.

“We are extremely grateful. They have put on this community event for us and we just supported them wherever they needed it,” said Dr Nath “There was a real mixture of people who came. People who wanted to support the hospice, people who wanted to learn more about traditional Indian dance and people who knew more about it already.”
