I joined an audience of mums, dads, aunties, uncles, friends and those who just went along to the Arts Centre on Saturday evening to hear these wonderful Kentwood kids perform their annual concert under the direction of principal Sheila Harrod.
A great deal of hard graft went into this one evening of entertainment to get all word and note perfect.
The opening, Don’t Stop Believing and Queen’s Somebody To Love, blew me away, and the belt-it-out numbers showed just how it should be done. We were then taken on a rollercoaster ride of all genres of singing, with some excellent solos culminating in an audience participation section of hymns taken from the Royal wedding.
Suffice to say they all performed with the confidence and skill of one much older than their years. The audience didn’t do too badly either!
Guests during the evening were members of the main Kentwood Show Choir, plus young Joao Carolino, who is currently training at the Arts Educational School. I can guarantee that this young man has a very bright future in the West End. What a voice and stage presence he has.
The band, directed by Sheila on piano, as well as the costumes, lighting and sound were once again excellent. To get all these bodies on to the comparatively small Arts Centre stage was a feat in itself.
If this is the talent of the future, then Swindon is in good hands.
