Spine tingling magic for Halloween is also written in the stars for the first performance in the Inner Rhythms season at Swindon Dance.

Mana - The Power Within is presented by Ace Dance and Music at Swindon Dance, Regent Circus on Saturday, October 25.

The double bill is choreographed by Jose Agudo and Vincent Mantsoe and includes Afro-fusion, martial arts, Flamenco and ballet in a through-provoking piece of theatre. The journey sends shivers down the spine as the dance unfolds to commissioned music and cutting-edge lighting. The show starts at 7.45pm.

Also this week on show at the Central Library is the Black Dance Archives exhibition showcasing the contribution that British Black dance has made to the UK dance scene and culture.

On Halloween itself there is another double bill at the Dance Studio entitled Murmur and Inked.

Murmur is choreographed by Aakash Odedra and Lewis Major and uses linkages between art, technology and society to raise awareness of the frustrations Dyslexia can bring.

Aakash was diagnosed with dyslexia when he was a child and he found that dance was the perfect medium for him to express himself and today he has become an ambassador for the national charity.

Inked is based on the tale of Aakash’s grandmother who covered her body with tattoos to ensure her protection and sense of belonging. The work is choreographed by Damien Jalet, an Olivier-award winner. Inked is where the body becomes a place of transformation, a journey through rituals. The show incorporates Indian and Western contemporary dance.

Tickets for both evenings are £11 and £9 from 01793 601700. - Flicky Harrison
