GET your popcorn ready and your gladrags on as a local singing group is promising to put on a performance of Oscar-winning standards.

Ten in a Bar will be singing songs from some of the best known and loved films in their latest show, A Night at the Oscars.

It’s been an extra busy time for the 16-strong group, not only have they been rehearsing their harmonies they’ve also be filming some famous scenes from movie history to play as part of the show.

“We wanted to film segments to go inbetween each of the songs,” said group director Jill Hodge.

“We’ve filmed scenes from Brief Encounter, Silence of the Lambs, Pride and Prejudice and many more.

“It’s been a lot of hard work but I think it is worth it.

“The group have put in 100 per cent with this show and I think the audiences will really appreciate it.

“I’d also like to thank all the Swindon people involved in helping us make these films – their time and generosity has been fantastic.”

The idea of a show running like a real night at the Oscars is something quite new for the group.

Audiences can expect all the usual things like ‘Best Categories’ but without the long speeches and, hopefully, the tears.

Inbetween the film sequences the singers perform an array of songs, from the feelgood songs of 4 Weddings & A Funeral, Pretty Woman and Mamma Mia to spine tingling numbers from Stardust, Titanic and Gladiator.

The group have also secretly been practising a special finale, which has its roots set in Bollywood.

“I don’t think is something that has been done in Swindon before,” said Jill.

“It is something a bit different and unique and I think the Arts Centre are also quite excited about putting it on because of our unusual requests.

“We hope the audience enjoy it as much as us.”
