Dancers give stand-out performance

THERE can’t be many shows where every single performer on stage is the stand-out star, but this was certainly one of them.

Each and every one of the 50-plus ballerinas, tap dancers, body-poppers and contemporary dancers had their own private fan club in the audience at the Wyvern, and each and every one received their own rapturous applause.

Dances ranged from the impossibly cute (toddlers dressed as Dalmatians singing How Much Is That Doggy?...aaahhhhh) to the incredibly polished (an adult tap dance troupe - probably all someone’s mum - perfectly in sync as they tapped out Swing Time).

There were mishaps galore - little ones who forgot their steps, dancers arriving on stage in the middle of a number, one tiny lad who wandered off halfway through his routine - but no one cared a bit. If anything, that made the night all the more adorable.

Fair play to the dance teachers who spent months preparing these stars-in-the-making for their moment of fame, and to the parent helpers behind the scenes who had to make sure the excited performers were all in the right place at (more or less!) the right time.

For me, one beautiful four-year-old girl is especially worthy of praise. I couldn’t take my eyes off her in her pussy cat costume as she pranced and skipped across the stage with her perfect little ballet feet. She absolutely stole the show.

And the fact that she’s my niece is a mere coincidence.
