Personal Overview - Has an a background in studying economic and social issues, with particular expertise on pensions and welfare, initially gaining a junior social security post, a position which enabled him to draw upon this knowledge. He has made a number of very detailed speeches in the House of Commons. In 1999 he was promoted to become their senior Social Security Spokesman and a Liberal Democrat shadow cabinet member. Was promoted again in 2005 to the high profile Health portfolio. Was made the Party's Chairman of their Manifesto Group in June 2007 in preparation for a General Election. Achieved a Shadow Cabinet position in Nick Clegg's initial Shadow Cabinet reshuffle. Gained responsibility for the Countryside in March 2008. Having reinvented himself as a UK Independence member he has the opportunity to use his accountancy skills to highlight any financial issues within the EU.
