SWINDON'S New College has got behind the town's newest radio station.

There are seven days left to the launch of the new community radio station Swindon 105.5.

Now the station has received a boost in the form of a £100 donation from Swindon's New College.

The donation is vital to the future of the station, since it is being run on donations.

Julian Watson, a media lecturer at New College, said that the donation was a way to confirm the commitment the college had to the station.

"I've been involved with the station since the test pilot in 2005 and been the college's link to them since then," he said.

"We've been raising the profile of the station within the college for a while and this was the best way to show our commitment.

"The money has gone towards the general running of the station.

"I personally have been making a donation of £30 a year as an individual.

"Along with it being a good way to show our support, it also helps raise the college's profile and it's good for us to be associated with such an exciting venture."

The station will launch on Saturday, March 15. It will broadcast from studios at the County Ground.

It is to be going live on the 39th anniversary of Swindon Town's League Cup win against Arsenal in 1969.

The station has promised a wide range of programming.

From shows hosted by young DJs planning to play electro, house and rock music, through to trips down memory lane with a team calling themselves Swindon's Old Duffers, the station's organisers say there will be something for all tastes.
