Holiday homes plan rejected
EDDY Shah's plans to build more holiday homes in Wootton Bassett have been turned down by North Wiltshire District Council.
But he intends to appeal the decision, which will be heard at a planning inquiry.
The matter was first heard in 2006 when Mr Shah submitted plans for 123 holiday units on land adjacent to the Wiltshire Golf and Country Club, which the council turned down.
Eventually permission was given for 44 as the council said the original plan was too large for a rural area.
Mr Shah has finished building the original 44, and half of them have been sold.
He then submitted a plan for 39 more but, after discussions with the council, reduced that to 30.
That is the latest application, but at appeal Mr Shah could go back to the original plans.
"I was disappointed by the council's refusal on these plans," said Mr Shah.
"We will move on to a full appeal and inquiry."
Mr Shah said that out of a population of 11,000 people in Wootton Bassett there had only been three objections.
He added: "I still believe we have a strong part to play in the community in creating more jobs and more tourism.
"We're going to a full appeal because we want to prove that Wootton Bassett, and the surrounding area, is somewhere people should be proud to work and live in and be proud to visit."
The original Wiltshire Golf Course was an 18-hole design in 140 acres of rolling countryside, which was created by Peter Alliss, the former Ryder Cup player and now commentator.
The course was opened in 1991 but 10 years later the club was bought by Eddy and Jennifer Shah in 2001 and was expanded to include a 58-room hotel, an indoor pool, a gym and new restaurants and function rooms.
In 2005 the Shahs upgraded the course to match the new facilities.
Two years later, after spending another £1m, which included the purchase of an additional 100 acres, two new courses were opened.
Mr Shah said this would be the last development of lodges on his land.
A spokesman for North Wiltshire council said it was Mr Shah's prerogative to appeal the decision. He added: "The decision was taken after the advice from the council's planning officers."

That's misleading.
He can only appeal 12 months after any decision.
So, depending on when the original application was determined he may not be able to appeal against the 'original plans' being rejected.

Unless the application is illegal, all he need do is appeal to the Planning Inspectorate.
John 'Fingers down throat' Prescott has ensured that he will get permission to built whatever he likes, wherever he likes, as long as the plans conform to current building regulations.
Thanks John.
