A COUPLE will celebrate their first anniversary in Dubai after last summer's floods caused havoc on their wedding day.
Lucy and Paul Carson married during the torrential downpours on July 20.
They tried to delay the ceremony at St Mary's Church in Purton for as long as possible as flood water swamped the area, but in the end had to go ahead without some of their friends and family as cars were stuck in the floodwater, pictured inset.
Between the ceremony and the reception at the Cricklade Hotel and Country Club, even more of the couple's guests became stranded and delayed.
Lucy's grandmother Kathleen Davis, 76, of Haydon Wick, was devastated she was unable to see her granddaughter in her bridal dress.
Both were so upset Lucy, 24, arranged to wear her wedding dress one more time and took her grandmother out for a surprise Sunday lunch.
Now, to ensure there is not a repeat performance, the couple from Taw Hill have given up on the unpredictability of the British weather when planning to celebrate the first year of their married lives.
