INDIVIDUALS who helped make the Olympic Games happen this summer are being invited to a special concert as a thank you.

The Rotary clubs of Swindon have organised a Last Night Of The Proms concert and want the volunteers who helped with the running of the Olympic and Paralympic events to be guests of honour on the night. The volunteers, known as Olympic Games Makers, are being encouraged to attend the event in their purple and red uniforms and will be invited up on stage.

The event at Wyvern Theatre is presented by the Rotary clubs of Swindon Thamesdown, Swindon Old Town and Swindon.

It is hoped the concert will raise thousands for Prospect Hospice and Swindon Young Musicians.

Highlights include performances by the Swindon Young Musicians, local youth music groups, The Waterloo Band of the Rifles, and a special guest performance by soprano Lynn Hawkins.

Bob Barrett, of the Rotary Club of Swindon Thamesdown, said: “We would like the Olympic Games Makers of Swindon to attend the event dressed in their uniform as our guests to celebrate their work during the Olympics.

“If you're still riding on a patriotic high from this most British of summers then the charity concert might be just your thing.

“The concert is showcasing local musical talent from youth and adult groups from across our area.

“We have 120 people already going so ticket sales are doing really well and we want to fill out the auditorium and celebrate all that is good about Britain and Swindon.”

The event takes place on November 17 at 7.30pm. Tickets are £16.50, which includes a goody bag and programme. To book, visit www.wyverntheatre.org.uk or call 01793 524481.

Games Makers who would like to claim their free tickets can call Bob Barrett on 01793 491692 or visit www.rotaryclubofswindon thamesdown.org.uk.
