Last chance to have your vote

TODAY is the deadline for electors interested in voting in two elections.

Swindon Council’s electoral services team is running both the county-wide police and crime commissioner election, and the by-election in the Blunsdon and Highworth ward, triggered by the death of Coun Doreen Dart.

For both elections, which take place on Thursday, November 15, the deadline to be added to the electoral register is 5pm today.

This is also the cut-off point for postal vote applications from those who will not be able to get to the polling station on the day.

The candidates for the police and crime commissioner elections are Conservative Angus Macpherson, Labour’s Clare Moody, Lib Dem Paul Batchelor and John Short for UKIP, as well as independent candidates Liam Silcocks and Colin Skelton.

Meanwhile the by-election candidates are Phil Beaumont for Labour, Andrew Day for the Green Party, John Lenton for UKIP, Cath Smith for the Lib Dems, and Steve Weisinger for the Conservatives.

Contact the electoral services team on elecreg@swindon.gov.uk or call 01793 463999.

The police and crime commissioner elections are a farce. I didn't ask for them as I don't want to employ another load of politicians.

The government runs the police so what is the point in employing more polititions and then have to have another body to make sure they are working in the public interest and not politically motivated.

Does any body believe these people will will act in the public interest? They never have done before.

I'll vote for anyone who will make sure a woman who makes up a totally false allegation of rape gets more than an £80 fixed penalty. (see other story but Adver wont allow comments).
.
What a disgrace. Why has this woman not been prosecuted or even cautioned. A fixed penalty means she has no criminal record to declare yet she admitted to totally making up a rape allegation causing an innocent man to be arrested.
.
Are the Police and CPS mad?? Why on earth would they come to this decision...and why on earth publicise it?? Real discentive for people not to make up false allegations! And totally undermines the poor people who are genuinely victims of crime.
.
What does everyone else think? And why won't the Adver allow comments on this story?

I completely agree, but its probably seen as a "Quick Win," by everyone concerned.

The idea that the man / men who suffered from these false allegations, might be entitled to justice, doesn't enter their tiny little minds.
.
"Are the Police and CPS mad?"

No, just lazy and laizez faire!

"Why won't the Adver allow comments on this story?"

These elections are a pointless charade. It makes no difference who the police commissioner is, or what their policies are, when we'll still have the same, lamentable, judiciary in place - letting off criminals, giving out ten 'last' chances and otherwise signalling to criminals that crime is quite acceptable.

We don't need police commissioners, we need courtrooms that deal with convicted criminals appropriately. Sadly, not something we have at the moment.
