Swindon pupils net cash for Barnado's in Three Peaks challenge

SECONDARY school pupils have raised more than £2,800 for Barnado’s by taking on the Yorkshire Three Peaks challenge.

Last month, 24 Year 11 students and 11 staff from Warneford School, in Highworth, took on the 24-mile hike in the Yorkshire Dales.

They climbed the three major peaks of Whernside, Ingleborough and Pen-y-Ghent over 12 hours.

The challenge was taken on in memory of popular teacher Alan Thomas, who died a few years ago, and who was a keen supporter of Barnardo’s.

The students presented a cheque to Robin Turner, the south west area educational fundraising manager last week.

Head boy Alex Smith, who came up with the idea for the expedition handed over the cheque.
