THE long-awaited plans for a £65m revamp of the Oasis Leisure Centre are set to be viewed by the public.

The outline plans for the Oasis Leisure Centre are set to go on display there on Friday, November 9 from 1pm to 8pm and Saturday, November 10 from 10am to midday and then from 1pm to 6pm.

Moirai Capital Invest-ments, which took over the centre in June, signed a deal with Swindon Council earlier this year to refurbish the old centre and later provide other leisure facilities on an adjoining site, including a hotel and indoor ski slope.

The site will also include a multi-purpose indoor arena concert space originally conceived to accommodate 5,000 people, but now being planned to take 7,500.

Project manager Chris Lewis, said: “We are very excited about these events as they will provide us with some vital feedback from the people of Swindon.

“We know how much people value the Oasis and we are extremely keen to discuss our plans with them and hear their ideas.

“The development will be at the heart of the community of Swindon, and it is important that the public have their say.”

The overall leisure scheme is predicted to create 1,700 jobs, including 400 full-time and 600 part-time positions, and several hundred other jobs.

This is through construction and ongoing supported activity associated with the development.

The Moirai team is led by Martin Barber, who was the founder and developer of the X-scape brand behind the Milton Keynes, Castleford and Braehead indoor ski slopes.

He has also had a hand in the development of another 20 leisure parks.
