JAHMENE Douglas certainly did Swindon proud at the weekend with arguably his best performance on The X Factor to date.

The former ASDA Walmart worker stunned judges with an impressive rendition of the Beyonce classic Listen during Number Ones Week.

His show-stopping vocal performance helped cement his position in the competition as he sailed through on Sunday night’s voting show.

And, in what seems to be becoming a bit of a trend, the judges were unanimous with their praise and compliments for the young Swindonian, agreeing he had given the best performance of the night. Louis Walsh said: “That is how it's done.

“That is the vocal performance of the night, by a mile. You are a world class recording artist. You’re not going back to that supermarket.”

Tulisa was also full of high praise, claiming the performance had left her speechless.

“I guess I’ll see you in the finals. I’ve never heard a woman sing that as good as Beyonce, let alone a man,” she said.

Gary Barlow said: “It's an enormous song with an enormous range. Oh my God, you killed it tonight. Your talent is amazing.”

And Jahmene’s mentor Nicole Scherzinger, who had tried her hand at supermarket life with Jahmene earlier in the week, said: “You little slice of heaven you. You are lighting the torch for all the other people. You inspire so many people.”

The performance followed another soulful interpretation last week, which saw Jahmene sing the Roberta Flack hit Killing Me Softly.

The 22-year-old singer is still second favourite to win the competition behind 16-year-old Ella Henderson, who wowed the judges with the Katy Perry chart-topper Firework on Saturday night.

Former contestant Jade Ellis, who was voted out of the show last week, said Jahmene is in her top three to take the prize, which includes a recording contract.

Jade, who performed at Bushwackers in the town centre on Thursday night, said: “If I had one word for Jahmene it would be endurance.

“He has got the talent, there is no doubt about it, but he just needs to hang on in there because it is a long competition.

“I definitely think he has what it takes to win, he is in my top three with Ella and James, and I will definitely be rooting for him.”
