SWINDON office workers Clare McDougall and Tom Matthews were members of the fourth, and final, npower boat to cross the Channel in aid of the company’s charity partner, Macmillan Cancer Support.
Clare, 44 and 26-year-old Tom, along with their colleagues, arrived in France in just five hours and six minutes, the second fastest of the four fundraising boats and well under the six or seven hours they anticipated it would take.
At one point they were even racing a cross-Channel ferry.
“This has been a major event in my life so far,” Tom said.
“It’s not everyone who gets to row the channel and for such a brilliant cause too.”
A total of £32,000 has been raised for the Macmillan Cancer Support as a result of the npower teams’ efforts.
Any donations will still gratefully received at www.justgiving.com/ MacmillanChannelRow.
